Random Review
This site is targeted to modern and retro gamers alike looking for honest opinions on games appearing on the classic 16-bit console. What makes this site different from many others is that we aim to constantly keep in mind how these games play in a 21st century setting. Much time has passed since the Genesis ruled the roost and to score a game well because it was influential or great for its time would mean creating these reviews in a void. That is not our goal. That doesn't mean, however, that we're simply here to remind you of how much things have changed and irreverently bash these classics. We understand that if our audience is to be so widespread, we have to accommodate these two vastly different groups: the retro enthusiast and the modern gamer.
You may therefore notice that we have a two-pronged rating system. The first is based on a numeric system and is targeted towards modern gamers. It is meant to represent how we perceive the game to exist in a modern setting. It does not mean that a 10 is a perfect game. For more information on our rating scale, please see the "About us" page. The numbers are meaningless otherwise.
Our second rating system is a simple “thumbs up/ thumbs down,” made famous by movie critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. This is meant to show how the reviewer likes the game on a personal level. Unlike our first scale, this is meant to be highly subjective. You may well see a game get rated highly but receive a “thumbs down” or a poorly rated one get a “thumbs up!” Games therefore have two chances to receive a positive appraisal as it were.
Well actually, they have six. Rather than have a single person give his or her opinions on a title, we’re going to try and have three different individuals provide their opinions for each and every one. This should help balance out any “fan boy” factor that may occur and hopefully let the game in question be seen in at least a couple different lights.
So, to recap: the numeric scale is for modern gamers, the “thumbs up/ down” for retro. The former is meant to be objective, the second subjective. We’ll try and get three different opinions for every game.
With that out of the way, please enjoy yourself! Our site is at your disposal.
